dopamine dependence

Together with my project group, we designed a game in which the player can experience daily life in a Dutch city in the year 2050. The game shows a vision of the future that is grounded in reality and based on four future scenarios. Our chosen scenario is “Fast World.” Technology develops quickly, and we increasingly live in a world where we become dependent on the dopamine we consume through technological devices. This also leads to fewer physical social interactions and to a society where people no longer pay attention to each other.

The player of the game is challenged to keep their dopamine level as high as possible. This can be done by completing tasks. These tasks always involve technology and exclude social interaction. If the player’s dopamine level gets too low, or if they use the headset more than three times, the game ends.

With this game, we actually want to show the opposite of this world, but at the same time highlight the direction in which we seem to be moving.
